SIDEL, Victor W., MD Formerly of New York, NY on January 30, 2018 in Greenwood Village, CO. Predeceased by Ruth (Grossman) Sidel, his loving wife of sixty years. Cherished father of Mark and his wife Margaret Raymond and Kevin and his wife Inge. Loving grandfather of Andrew, Rosemary and Theodora. Dr. Sidel was Chair of the Department of Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx from 1969-1985. He then became Distinguished University Professor of Social Medicine at Montefiore and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 1985 he was elected President of the American Public Health Association. He was a founder and President of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) and later was Co-President of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), which was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. Dr. Sidel is the author of numerous books and articles about the human consequences of war, international health, and the impact of poverty and deprivation on health and well-being and lectured worldwide on these issues. Graveside services will be held at Temple Ohabei Shalom Cemetery, 147 Wordsworth Street, East Boston, MA on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 11:30am. Following the graveside services, family and friends are welcome for a celebration of life and a lunch at Spinelli’s, 282 Bennington Street, East Boston, MA.
